601 W. Beech
Tech-focused residential tower
601 W. Beech is a proposed 33-story residential building with a keen focus on sustainability and cutting-edge technological innovations. This pioneering project will sit in the heart of Little Italy, preserving and enhancing the rich history of San Diego’s oldest surviving district. The onsite blackwater reuse system will save roughly 5.5 million gallons of potable water per year by safely treating and recycling wastewater for reuse in the complex’s cooling towers, toilet flushing, and irrigation, significantly reducing the building’s water usage and demand on the municipality’s potable water supply. Savings in utility fees and reduction in water demand will be passed on to residents providing high-quality affordable workforce housing.

Committed to sustainability and innovation in San Diego
The city of San Diego is working to meet water use reduction goals outlined in the Climate Action Plan approved by Mayor Todd Gloria. With traditional air conditioning representing one of the largest sources of water use in multifamily buildings, Epic’s OneWaterTM system can eliminate the project’s need for municipal potable water sources to cool the building.
The Forge partnership at 601 W. Beech marks the first deployment of Epic’s full resource recovery approach in San Diego. The project sets a new precedent for responsible, sustainable design and gives back to the community by significantly minimizing the building’s water footprint and returning carbon-sequestering organics back to the soil, where they belong.
