Fifteen Fifty
Luxury multifamily high-rise residential building
Fifteen Fifty is a 40-story luxury apartment building that is home to the first permitted and approved onsite greywater operation in San Francisco’s city history. Related, one of the largest real estate developers in the United States, implemented a pioneering water reuse approach both to comply with San Francisco’s Article 12C water reuse ordinance and to make an important sustainability statement at a moment when California was grappling with its worst drought in 1200 years. The 550-unit residential tower also includes 40,000 square feet of retail space and a 12,000 square foot park.
Operated and maintained by Epic, the onsite water reuse system has the capacity to recycle 7,500 gallons of greywater per day (or over 2.5 million gallons per year) and will save Related more than $90,000 annually on utility costs over the next 10 years.

Sustainability and compliance at the forefront
The system installed at Fifteen Fifty and operated by Epic Cleantec is designed to recycle up to 7,500 gallons of water daily for reuse in the building's toilet and urinal flushing. The system captures greywater from the unit's showers, bathroom sinks, and washing machines as well as capturing rainwater from the building roof.
After passing through an advanced purification process consisting of biological treatment, ultrafiltration membranes, and disinfection, the system makes use of real-time monitoring technologies to verify that the recycled treated water meets the highest levels of cleanliness in order to safeguard public health. Potable make-up water is supplied to the treated water tank with an air gap to prevent cross-connection while ensuring continuous water service to the building in the event of routine maintenance or interruptions to the system's performance.
